1. According to Daniel 1:8, what did Daniel do and what was it the result of?
Daniel purposed in his heart that he would do what was right before God and it was born out of his will, he thought about these things ahead of time, and had a plan, and purposed not to bring dishonor to God. The key is that he purposed in his heart and it was born out of his will do to that which was right.
2. Ecclesiastes 9:3 may not be one of those memory verses you hold on to during difficult times, but what is Solomon saying to us?
That the heart of man is evil, it is not good, not one of us is good, and that man will go to his deathbed in that condition.
3. Now as discouraging as Ecclesiastes 9:3 may be, God does not want to leave us in that condition. In Ezekiel 36:25-26 what promise does God give to us?
He wants to give us a new heart, create in us a new heart. And that can only come from God, not by our efforts. It is only as we give our lives to Christ, and He cleanses us from all our sin, and He will give us new hearts, made of flesh, and not hard like stone.
4. Why do you think Jesus comes down so hard on these religious leaders in Mark chapter 7, even calling them "hypocrites"?
Because not only were they deceiving themselves and leading themselves away from God, but others also. And in doing so they thought of themselves as being right with God, when in reality they were going to Hell! Blind leading the blind and both will die in their sins!
