THE CRUCIFIXION

PART 1

MARK 15:20-26

1. Read Matthew 27:29. What did the crown of thorns symbolize? (Hint: Genesis 3:18).

The thorns were symbolic of sin, and thus, this crown was a symbol of Jesus bearing the sins of the world!

2. How does Isaiah 55:8-9 relate to Simon in Mark 15:21?

Simon came to town for the Passover, traveling some 800 miles from North Africa, and he got more than he came for. He had an encounter with the Passover Lamb. God’s thoughts, His ways are far above ours!

3. In Isaiah 49:16a we read "Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands..." The Amplified Bible. What is the Lord speaking of here?

It is possible He is speaking of the crucifixion, that our names have been placed upon His hands and as He is enduring the pain, He see’s our faces, the reasons He is doing what He is doing. You see, the Romans didn’t put Jesus on the cross. The Jews didn’t put Jesus on the cross. But we each did by our sins, which He paid in full the penalty for them!

4. Read Isaiah 50:6. What is this a description of?

Jesus was going to be scourged or flogged by the Romans, He was beaten by them and had His beard ripped off of His face by their hands, and He stood there like a Lamb being lead to slaughter as they mocked Him and spit upon Him. This was not written after the fact, but some 700 years before these things ever took place!
